B2B Technologies Creates Chemical Data Warehouse for ClearCross, Inc.
Better Data Improves Safety in Production and Transport of Chemicals Worldwide
ATLANTA, GA – April 9, 2002 – B2B Technologies, an Atlanta-based developer of collaborative Internet
applications, has completed development of one of the industries' largest chemical data warehouses for
ClearCross, Inc.
The ClearCross data repository is the main data warehouse for a number of ClearCross’s Web and software
products, including RegDB, RegDB Online and Chemtox. These products provide the most comprehensive and
current source of worldwide regulatory compliance knowledge available, delivering critical environmental,
health, safety, and logistics (EHS&L) knowledge required to achieve long-term EHS&L assurance with
information related to approximately 240,000 chemicals from over 88 different global regulations.
As a result of acquisitions and ongoing development, ClearCross had a number of products that used much of
the same chemical data, but required separate maintenance. Creating a repository that held regulatory data
for all of these related products saves them from having to maintain it in numerous databases. This improves
the quality of the data and reduces ongoing maintenance costs.
The data repository is designed to efficiently process and store millions of records about chemical
regulations from many different countries. It accommodates translations into multiple languages and
makes the data traceable back to its original source. "With our 'Process for Excellence,' B2B’s proprietary
development process, we were able to design the data repository and create the data import and exports
under a tight deadline," said Jim Tebbel, a senior developer at B2B Technologies. In developing the data
repository, B2B Technologies worked closely with ClearCross to understand not only the requirements for
the Data Repository, but ClearCross’s overall product strategy and vision. "A major goal of the project
was to plan for the future and design the data repository to be both flexible and expandable," said Chris
Strobel, Director of Development at B2B Technologies.
"B2B demonstrated both the technical and business expertise required to quickly understand our needs and
help develop a world-class solution. I found their staff knowledgeable, easy to work with, and with the
experience necessary to find alternate solutions to difficult issues. I thoroughly enjoyed working with
everyone at B2B, and sincerely hope that we will have the opportunity to work together again. So far it’s
been nothing but a pleasure," said Jeanne de Beer, Vice President of Data Content and Regulatory Affairs at
ClearCross.
