Georgia Partnership for Caring Foundation Increases Health Care Services for Low Income Uninsured

Atlanta, Georgia - March 29, 2007 - GPCF, a private, non-profit organization comprised of health care providers has recently expanded their capacity to provide services for more uninsured Georgians. Individuals and heath facilities associated with the foundation donate their time and products to provide non-emergency health care for low-income persons who are living below the federal poverty level. Much of the organization’s ability to serve a larger number of individuals was previously limited by the manual processes that were used. With the new automated application they expect to accommodate a substantial increase of potential recipients annually.

B2B Technologies, a local Atlanta consulting organization, worked with GPCF to create a new web-based application which allows outreach workers to qualify and process applicants in the field by gathering and entering basic information immediately. This does three important things according to Tom Underwood, Executive Director.

“First, our volunteers can speed the process of getting help for these individuals by immediately starting the services referral process through the Internet instead of waiting until they return to the office. Second, the new system allows us to track the applicant through the system without relying on a stack of paper. Applicants must be qualified for the free services and this new Web-based system allows us to process them quickly. Of course, we are always stretched for resources” says Underwood, “so as a third benefit, this new system created in cooperation with B2B Technologies let’s us help more people without increasing staff. B2B, as part of their commitment, generously agreed to keep their fees to a minimum so we could have a commercially strong and efficient system without exhausting our funds.”

These private providers are supported by the Right From the Start Medicaid outreach workers in the public sector who qualify and process applicants for the program. Additional support is provided by GPCF staff, who maintain the client and provider databases, staff the toll free phone lines for clients and providers, and refer approved clients to the volunteer health care organizations on a rotating basis.

After implementing the new system, GPCF also realized another benefit. The foundation can now easily create reports for those organizations that contribute services or products. “This greatly supports us keeping and getting additional donations because we can show how those services and products are being used and who is receiving them,” added Underwood.
