Houston County Schools – New Student Dashboard Goes Live

Perry, Georgia - January 2, 2008 - Houston County Schools may have become the first system in Georgia to implement a new reporting “dashboard” giving a full view of student information related to not only test scores but other student information as well. The new application, built by B2B Technologies in Atlanta on Microsoft’s SharePoint 2007 product, integrates testing information from both standardized state administered programs and locally managed systems as well.

This new dashboard application is fully visible all the way from the District Level down to the individual classroom and student; easily assessable from any web connection with proper security authorization. Information “rolls up” from reports for the individual student, to the classroom, then to the course, next to the school, and finally to the whole school district. Not only can a student’s progress be measured, it can be visually plotted and viewed graphically. Trends can be readily seen and administrators can quickly determine both good and bad trends.

According to Houston County School officials they will be able to answer questions such as, “Does a student need to be shifted to another class level because they are struggling in certain academic areas? Are some instructors less effective in teaching certain subject curriculum? Are there overall trends within a school that indicate either a need for improvement or is there something indicative about the student population at that school that is causing a notable deviation from others?”

Wally Reeves, the Executive Director of Information Technology for Houston County Schools stated, “When I demonstrated the new system a few weeks back to approximately 100 school Principals, administrators and other officials, I had what may have been the best reception of a new system than I have ever experienced in more than 25 years in the technology field.” According to Reeves, one administrator stood up and announced that it was the best application he had ever seen regarding the benefits it would provide.

“B2B Technologies was very pleased to have been a part of this effort,” according to Frank Fuerst, President of B2B Technologies, “and it was an application that had been sorely needed by most all school systems for a number of years. Now with Houston’s pioneering of this application it should prove of tremendous value to other districts and city schools, not only in Georgia but in other states as well.”
