As one of the world's leading providers of global environmental, health, safety and logisitics solutions, Atrion International, Inc. needed to move its market-leading repository of chemical regulatory data from a client/server platform to the Web. Atrion's repository, which is called RegDB, routinely received kudos for being the pre-eminent source for chemical-related regulatory data worldwide, but the product's client/server architecture made it hard to deploy and update. Keeping the database current required the physical distribution of CD-ROMs every 90 days.

RegDB's move to the Web needed to happen in record time to meet customer commitments. The move was complex because the repository included country-specific legal requirements associated with more than 240,000 chemicals. Atrion's business needs, along with competitive pressure, required that the new application be up and running in just 10 weeks. This aggressive timeframe called for expert assistance from an external development partner.

Not only did B2B deliver the completed application on time, but RegDB Online includes capabilities not previously available. For example, RegDB Online:

• Eliminates the every-90-day cycle for CD-ROM production and distribution by allowing database updates to be made on-line at any time.

In addition to designing and implementing RegDB Online, B2B also provided technical training and mentoring to Atrion's internal staff, ensuring that ongoing application support and maintenance can be handled in-house.
